Fond Of Our Fathers - June 2011

As a person who has a father, we all wish to do something special for father's day. As times change and society advances, so does the way we celebrate Father's Day. Some customs change, but the sentiment stays the same – to demonstrate our love and make this day special for our fathers.

At its heart, Fathers Day is about family with the focus on dad. It should not be about expensive gifts but rather family values and a recognition of Dad's contribution to the family.

From a personal point of view, it's about Dad's relationship with you, his son or daughter. This is a day to say thanks with little things like hand made crafts, a hand written Fathers Day card, a photo album or something else personal. Breakfast in bed, a nice gift and a lovely Fathers Day dinner are also welcome but not the main reason or message behind Fathers Day.

In this world we only have the opportunity to have one father and that alone shows us how important celebrating his fatherhood is. As with any other job done we all like to feel appreciated from time to time and the job of being a father is no exception. He has been there all through your life helping you along the way.

Whatever the situation, Fathers Day is about honoring Dad, for all that he has given and continued to contribute to the family. Fathers Day 2011 is all about Dads and Granddads. This year we hope you get to make many more memories with your fathers. We also want to help you out with a few ideas of what you can do for the father figures in your life to show them how much you appreciate them and what they do for you! Here are a few fun and different ideas for this Father's Day,

BE FUNNY

- Frozen Smiles Denture ice trays. These ice trays look exactly like your granddad's dentures. They can use this to freeze ice in. Serving drinks with ice shaped like your granddad's dentures will surely make everyone laugh. I found it for sale for $7.48 at Amazon.com.

- Electric back scratcher. For less than ten bucks, you can buy your granddad his personal back scratcher. This back scratcher reaches far areas of the back. It also has an extra hand to massage the skin without pain.

- Professional thumb wrestling ring. Since your granddads cannot participate in an actual wrestling match, why not encourage him to try thumb wrestling instead. The ring has two holes in opposing corner where contenders should insert their thumbs. The ring comes in different colors and the ropes are flexible as well. These rings are sold for only $12.47. Have fun thumb wrestling using these thumb wrestling rings.

BE CRAFTY

If you are gifted in crafts, you can make your own granddads gifts for father's day. You can personalize it to make it even more special. You can personalize a photo frame, mug, card, travel clock, and more using those stickers that they sell online or in the malls. You can put your message on the item or better yet, you can write your granddad's name. This way you can show you worked hard for this present. It may not be expensive but it's always true that it's the thought that counts. The best gifts for granddads are those that are not just bought and wrapped in a fancy paper

BE THOUGHTFUL

If there is one item that your granddad always wanted, then this is the time to get it for him. Remember not to ask what he wants though since doing this will defeat its purpose. You have to recall previous conversations wherein he mentioned a hobby or an interest. You can build an idea around this. He may want to visit a place he has always wanted to go to but he never had the chance. If you have the funds to give him a chance to be there, then do it.

There are many other gifts for granddads that you can buy or create. Any of the granddads gifts for father's day suggested are some of the best ways to make your granddads smile.

The bottom line is, just go and do something with your Father, Grandfather or even son who is a Father. Being a dad is hard work and we need to take the time to recognize dad for what he does for our family
