One night my sister and I and some of our friends were playing with a Ouija Board (Not Recommended); I swear it was moving on its own. We asked it who we were talking too and it said it was our grandpa who died years before. Freaky I tell ya, the chill's and goose bumps ran up my arms. It is funny how your mind works and thinks. Anyway my parents walked in so we hurried and hid it, We made it our selves on the back of one of my posters on my wall. Well that night we were in bed sleeping and my older sister sat up and started talking to someone I asked her who she was talking to and she pointed to a chair in our room and said my DR. I said where is your DR, and she pointed at the chair (I'm pretty sure the chair was rocking )*LOL* I was gone in like 1.2 seconds and screaming. It scared the BaGeeBee's out of me. The next day the board was gone. We could not find it. And we never played with a Ouija board again. And my parents were not to happy waking up to a screaming child I'm sure that scared them. I don't even watch scary movies anymore. Not to mention I live right by a cemetery now.

    I got hired to work on a ranch in the hills and the rancher must not have read my name just that I had worked with animals and when I showed up, a girl, they thought they could run me off by putting me in a cabin thought by all to be haunted. I ended up sleeping in my truck that first night cause the cabin was shaking and made so many sounds. I just knew it was the other ranch hands. So I hid in the trees the next night to catch them but no one showed up. When I went in everything was in a pile in the center of the room. That night I sat in the middle of the floor with a flash light knowing I was going to get them red handed! I fell asleep for I don't know how long but when I woke up everything from the cabin was stacked around me and the cabin was again shaking. after that I knew I was not alone BUT wanting to prove to them I could stand strong I dealt with not sleeping well. One night about 2 months after I had been in that cabin I fixed a meal for the other hands. It was a cold night and I had all the doors and windows open. After about an hour one of the guys said how crazy I was for having everything open. And I knew this would happen cause I had been trying things with what ever I was sharing the cabin with. I said well I want them open. Everything closed all at once and I said well now its too hot in here and the fire started. Needless to say I lost a few guests right then but a few stayed and started trying to get things to happen. Well I think that made my "roommate or mates" mad cause everything started flying through the air. About the time the cans started flying from the cupboards we knew it was time for us all to leave. I never did get the chance to get my stuff out we could never get the door open again.

    When my oldest son was about 5, I would hear him talking to someone! My girl 2, would talk n play dolls with someone! One day I asked who are you talking to and he replied, " it's the little girl ghost mom." This went on for a long period of time. My makeup would always come up missing. One day I could not find my makeup bag, nowhere to be found!! I said out loud" listen I am in a hurry I need my makeup bag." I looked on the couch 100 times, but it was there this time! My husband was sitting on couch he saw a little girl pop her head up in window right behind him, playing peek a boo. Then he heard something on porch, he jumped up ran out the door, but no one was there!! Many other situations have happened. I heard her playing with toys in the middle of the day! My husband keys have come up missing and never mind the fact, she didn't start teasing him until he believed in her!
    There was even one time I saw her riding in my car!! Not joking! We all finally knew it was her, she wanted all of too know about her!! Late one night I saw her standing in my door way. I couldn't believe my eyes! I told her it was time to go home, follow the light, her mom was waiting for her! I had a really special feeling come over me, very relaxed, very peaceful! My son told me about 2 years ago "mom I think that little girl is in heaven now, she told me you looked like her mom, that's why she liked us."

Friday Nights In A Small Town - All For One - May 2011

In sports, a competitive spirit sometimes creates bad feelings. Players who just want to win see their opponent as the enemy and begin to be rude to each other. Insults may fly around the field, players get physical, and sometimes it just isn't fun when that happens, especially in baseball. I have played sports for many years and before last summer I had never experienced a moment when all the players on a field came together as one, but during the State All-Star tournament of 2010 in Vernal, Utah, I did. There was one magical moment when all the boys on the field became friends and cheered for the same thing. That one thing was me and it is an experience I will never forget.

    I made the All-Star team and worked just as hard as anyone in practice. We were a team with a lot of individual talent, but we just couldn't seem to pull it all together in a game. We tried hard and played hard, but our team just didn't have what it took to beat the other teams. After a few disappointing innings, we were out of the tournament in two games on opening day.

    That same evening the tournament directors hosted a BBQ for players and their families followed by some fun individual and team skill competitions. After such bad losses all the rest of my teammates went home, but I wasn't quite ready for my All-Star experience to be over and I was hungry so, I stuck around for the BBQ. When it was time to sign up and pick team members for the skills competitions, I was the only kid there to represent my team so I signed up for the one event that I could do by myself.

    It was supposed to be a team event, but they made special arrangements for me and I was given a chance to compete in the target throwing competition. The object of the competition was to have four guys on the field, one at third base, one at shortstop, one at second and one at first base. Each player got four chances to hit a target at home plate. For each hit, a point was scored. I was allowed to throw from each spot by myself. I had sixteen chances to hit the target and score points.

    As I stepped up to third base I was nervous. Under the full lights of the stadium I felt like I was on stage in full spotlight. My nervousness soon turned to pure determination as I picked up the ball to begin my throws and I heard the team behind me begin cheering for me, "Come on Karter! You can do it!" they encouraged. A second team chimed in. Then a third, a fourth, and a fifth and pretty soon every boy on that field was cheering for ME and supporting me. It was such a great feeling. The best part was that every one of those boys who had been mortal enemies on the field as we played, in that moment, all became friends and not only cheered me on, but cheered each other on and began to appreciate each individual boy's talent. I had never seen anything like it before, but I hope to experience it many more times.

    I scored a few points in the competition and took home the Spirit Award that night too. I also got an MVP t-shirt, but I'll never forget that feeling or those boys who came together on the baseball field that night.


 

Field of Dreams - May 2011

    Members of the Vernal Youth baseball board joke around about hearing ghostly whispers much like Kevin Costner's character hears in the movie, "Field of Dreams", and even though it's an overused cliché, in the case of the new, state of the art Vernal youth baseball complex, it's perfectly fitting; "If you build it they will come". In the case of Vernal, Utah, if you build a beautiful 2.1 million dollar baseball complex they WILL come. They will come from other parts of Utah, California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii and even Guam. If you build it they will come.

    The Vernal Youth Baseball organization has been asked to host the 14u South Pacific Regional tournament later in August and will host 14u aged teams from all over the Western United States as well as Hawaii and Guam. Utah Babe Ruth Youth Baseball League District Commissioner, Kam Pope, says a major reason they were asked to host the tournament is because of the new complex. "We did such a great job with the state all-star tournament we put on last year for the 12u league and our facility was so nice they just called and asked if we'd do it."

Vernal will host three teams from Utah and three teams from California, as well as a team from Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii and even a team from Guam. Since Vernal is hosting the tournament, the 14u All-Star team will have an automatic entry so they will be one of the three Utah teams competing. Babe Ruth All-Star tournaments are progressive and start out with a district tournament where the top one or two teams move on to the state level. The top teams from the state level then progress to the regional tournament and one team from each region will then progress to the World Series. The regional tournament in Vernal is set to take place in August.

    Vernal City Recreation District Executive Director, Robin O'Driscoll, says being asked to host the Babe Ruth Regional tournament is a huge honor and a great chance to showcase Vernal's awesome facility. "We held the State 12u All-Star tournament last year and we got nothing but compliments from everybody who came out. They said it was just a really nice facility and they also loved the Rec Center. They were surprised at how much there was to do in this area."

    Vernal Mayor Gary Showalter says the new ball park is a source of great pride in Vernal. "It's a beautiful facility." Showalter explains. It's one of the better facilities in the state. It's very well organized and laid out. A lot of thought and planning went into the design and construction of the complex and the results are just amazing."

The newly remodeled baseball complex has four fields used by many different age groups that all fan out from a center point where the concession stand, bathrooms and scorekeepers booth are all housed in one building. There are state of the art scoreboards on each field run from the scorekeeper's box located in the top of the building and fans can cheer their team on from roomy bleachers and deep, concrete steps beside each field. Fledgling trees line the areas in between the fields and will not only add beauty, but will provide much needed shade in just a few years. The public address system is also located in the scorekeeper's booth and is put to good use when announcing team line-ups before each game. "We put a lot of money back into our park." says Dave Olsen League President. "It's kind of our baby and we want to make it even better so we choose to put the money back into it. We've been able to provide backstop protectors, scoreboards, the PA system, and this year we're buying two, super nice batting cages for everybody to use."

The boys and girls who use the complex are extremely proud of it as well and just as it always has been, the Vernal ball park has become a favorite hang-out for baseball players of all ages. The ball park is buzzing with activity and plenty of people each night. "The boys are proud of the park." explains Olsen. "They love it. They love to be able to play here and they love hanging out even when they're not playing."

Teams who travel to Vernal will more than likely find the same pleasing atmosphere. Those who traveled to Vernal last year to compete were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed their stay very much. "We sent out packets of information on things to do and we included local coupons to places such as the waterslide, the rec center and local restaurants so the teams would have plenty to do when they weren't playing. " says Pope. Showalter says he heard many compliments as well. "Other teams from last year, Beaver, Richfield were all really impressed with the facilities and liked the area." reports Showalter.

Both Vernal City and Uintah County were able to pitch in to help put on a stellar tournament. Tournament directors hosted a family BBQ on the opening night of the tournament followed by a fun, team skills competition. Pope says this tournament will be similar. "We were able to offer the BBQ free for the All-Stars in the tournament. We want to do that again this year and we'll have more skills competitions and activities going on all the time plus a lot of good baseball. We've got a great group of people who are organizing this thing and as they've shown in the past, they are all very efficient so it should be a fantastic event." Mayor Showalter says Vernal City will once again help out and says he'll probably be on hand to take in a few games himself. "We are more than proud to be able to host such an event and from a City perspective we will work with the board to see what we can do to help them again this year."

Home and Garden Show 2009

OH MAN! I have been working diligently to get a lot of our web stuff updated! Once I get all caught up, it will be SO much easier, but I want to make sure that I am getting you guys all of the fun stuff we have going on!

AND WOW IS THIS SUMMER FULL OF THINGS THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE DOING! Golf Tournaments, Parades, Fairs, UBIC, Pow Wows, AND SO MUCH MORE!!!

This year's Home and Garden Show with the crew over at Eagle Country 105.5 KLCY and AM 920 KVEL was a BLAST! Here are a few of the pics that we took! There are so many amazing and highly motivated people in this area that are not afraid to go out on a limb and develop a business of their own.

OH, did I mention TALENTED?!?!? Man, the time and effort that so many of these men and women put into their goods and services was amazing! We had so much fun with all of it though!And it was such an amazing way to promote their businesses. We here at The Edge Magazine love to see growth in business community! It is wonderful!
